A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS investigation uncovered possible misconduct by officers in the Minneapolis Police Department Traffic Unit, which prompted an internal affairs investigation.

In May 2013, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reported that at least a half-dozen Minneapolis police officers in the department's traffic unit submitted traffic logs indicating little or no work being done. We also obtained GPS data of their squad cars and found some of those same officers sitting in the same location for hours rather than patrolling city streets.

At the same time, Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau told us our information raised serious concerns and she launched an internal affairs investigation into the matter.

A year later those investigations are finished, and MPD says "no officers were disciplined."

We asked for an on-camera interview with Harteau to find out why those officers were not disciplined but were told a closed investigation, without discipline, is considered private information under state law.
