Man Killed in Chanhassen Car Crash Identified

The 29-year-old man who died in a two-vehicle crash in Chanhassen Thursday afternoon has been identified.

According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old James O'Brien, of Chaska, was driving eastbound in a van on Flying Cloud Drive around 3 p.m. when he hit a guardrail at Stoughton Avenue, and ended up driving into oncoming traffic, authorities said.

O'Brien's van then hit Eli Russel of Dassel, Minnesota, as he was traveling west on County Road 61, authorities said. Russel died at the scene.

O'Brien was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries, according to authorities.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
