The Minnesota Twins will give left-hander Kris Johnson his first start with the team Thursday as part of a day-night doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Johnson will be the Twins' 26th player for the second game Thursday, set to begin at 6:10 p.m. at Target Field, to make up the first game of the series that was washed out on Tuesday. Mike Pelfrey will start the first game of the doubleheader at 12:10 p.m.

The move was made to avoid using starter Kyle Gibson on short rest later this week. When a team plays a doubleheader, it is allowed to bring up an additional player.

Johnson came to the Twins organization through a trade with Pittsburgh last November. The 29-year-old made four appearances last season for the Pirates in his major league debut, including one start. This year with Twins Triple-A affiliate Rochester, Johnson is 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA in four starts.
