The storm surrounding the $1.7 billion Southwest Light Rail Project continues to gather strength.
The leader of a Minneapolis neighborhood group fighting part of the project that runs through the Kenilworth Corridor appealed directly to Governor Mark Dayton on Tuesday.
Stuart Chazin of the Kenilworth Preservation Group sent a letter urging Dayton to support the deep tunnel option instead of the current shallow tunnel option through Kenilworth.
While the deep tunnel is more expensive, that group argues it would cause less disruption to the surrounding area.
The Metropolitan Council is currently seeking the consent of the city of Minneapolis, which has strongly opposed the project in its current form.
