A 635-pound lion was set to star in the Easter Sermon at Discover Church in Burnsville. The church arranged for "Mufasa" to travel from Montana with his trainer to be a part of the "Lion and the Lamb" story of Easter.
The trainer had a Department of Natural Resources permit and the church had cleared the lion's appearance with its insurance company.
"It would have made Easter Sunday very memorable," said Jordan Fleig from Discover Church.
Mufasa travels with his trainer and has been domesticated for about 10 years. He has starred in other videos and photo shoots.
While he was in the Twin Cities he stayed at a residential home in Eden Prairie. Police say there were no complaints or incidents during his five-day stay.
When we checked, we expected to find anxious or annoyed neighbors, but that wasn't the case.
"They had an electric fence. It was a wonderful experience. He was beautiful," said next-door neighbor Donna Stokke.
However, the church never got a permit from the city of Burnsville, so in the end, the lion never made it to church for Easter Sunday.
Fleig says they are already working on an encore performance for next year.
