An "ice out" has been declared on Lake Minnetonka.
At 7:30 a.m. the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Freshwater Society determined the ice out is official, which means boats can travel through all of the lake's channels and bays without obstruction of ice.
The "ice out" on Lake Minnetonka is usually declared in mid-April. Last year it was declared May 1.
The sheriff's office is reminding Minnesotans to be careful while boating on lake Minnetonka. In current Lake Minnetonka temperatures hypothermia can happen quickly.
