Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges gave her first State of the City address at the Minneapolis American Indian Center on Thursday.

In the address entitled 'Three Questions and a Brag' she described how she and her team will focus on three questions when considering initiatives:

  • How will this make the city run well?
  • How will this move the dial on equity?
  • How will this move the dial on growing the city?

While praising a handful of new programs and initiatives already in the works, Hodges explained some things we'll see throughout the year. For example, an extra $1 million investment in pothole repairs, increased recycling efforts and roughly 100 new hires at the police department.

“We get to grow, Minneapolis, and we get to do it all together. We get to truly become One Minneapolis, all of us — by necessity — contributing to that growth and prosperity and all of us by necessity sharing in that growth and prosperity,” Hodges said.

Hodges ended her speech by encouraging Minneapolis residents to brag. She says the city's growth is held back by its residents being modest.

During the week of July 14 Hodges wants residents to talk up the city as much as possible. The week will also showcase "best of" lists and events in Minneapolis.
