Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins announced details about the various All-Star activities set to take place in mid-July when Target Field hosts the 85th All-Star Game.

Twins first baseman Joe Mauer, Twins owner Jim Pohlad, Twins president Dave St. Peter, and former players Rod Carew, Paul Molitor, Bert Blyleven and Tony Olivia helped outline the details of the Midsummer Classic, which will be played on Tuesday, July 15.

They also launched voting for the players on the All-Star Ballot. Nine Twins players are on the ballot. You can view it here.

Local government representatives, including Minneapolis City Council President Barb Johnson, City of St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, and Hennepin County Commissioner Mike Opat, were also present.

There's much more to All-Star Week than the game itself. The Twins announced Friday the 2014 All-Star community legacy effort will contribute more than $8 million toward local projects and national charitable initiatives.

MLB and the Twins plan to donate the money through MLB Charities, the Twins Community Fund and the Pohlad Family Foundation, benefiting charitable initiatives like Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, National Recreation and Park Association, Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, and Susan G. Komen, among others.

Four youth baseball fields will be renovated as part of the project: Northeast Athletic Park Baseball Field in Minneapolis, El Rio Vista Baseball Field in St. Paul, NSP Field in Minneapolis and Lee Park in Robbinsdale.

Northeast Athletic Park will serve as the site of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 All-Star Jr. RBI Classic, an event designed to provide the opportunity for young baseball and softball RBI program participants ages 11-12 to be part of the Midsummer Classic experience.

Other aspects of the legacy effort include renovations at the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club in Minneapolis, the construction of an Advantage Services Center for homeless veterans living on the VA Medical Center near Fort Snelling, renovating the Ronald McDonald House of the Twin Cities, and the construction of a Miracle League Field in Hibbing, Minn. designed for youth with disabilities.
