Twins infielder Jason Bartlett made the team out of Spring Training, but has opted to retire amid a rehab assignment, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Bartlett had been with the Twins minor-league affiliate in Fort Meyers rehabbing an injured left ankle. He had been on the 15-day disabled list, and played two extended spring training games in Fort Myers before opting to retire.

Bartlett was 0-3 in his only appearance with the Twins this season, who opted to make him part of the big-league roster coming out of spring training.

Bartlett has a career batting average of .270, 31 home runs and 123 stolen bases over ten seasons which included stints with the Twins, Rays and Padres.

Bartlett will receive a pro-rated portion of the $1-million he was in line to earn this season from the Twins, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported last week.

Meanwhile Sam Fuld joined the team Tuesday in Tampa Bay. He was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Fuld hit .200 with a homer and four RBIs in seven games for the Athletics. He had spent parts of the previous three seasons with Tampa Bay after breaking in with the Chicago Cubs.

The A's designated Fuld for assignment April 12.
