The American Red Cross is helping three adults after an early-morning fire at a Bloomington apartment complex.

Firefighters were called to the Highlands Apartment complex on the 5200 block of West 98th Street around 2 a.m. Thursday on a report of a deck fire. The fire started on a second-floor unit and spread to the third-floor deck above the initial fire, crews say.

Officials say one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Residents were allowed to return, except for those in the two units directly affected.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Red Cross is offering shelter, clothing, food and emotional support to the victims.
