After years of being vacant, artists are bringing new life to the former Schmidt Brewery in Saint Paul.
Artist Lofts in the bottle house are filled and about 130 apartments opening next month in the Brew House are 90 percent leased.
There are income restrictions to live in the complex and you must be an artist. A one bedroom apartment runs about $900, a two bedroom costs $1,100. Developer Tom Nordyke believes the success of the project is actually found in art.
"When you ask artists why they want to live here almost all of them say because of the community being with an artistic community being with like mined creative people," Nordyke said.
