Nearly 14,000 Minnesota students go to school virtually from the comforts of their own home using online curriculum.

But a new school, set to open this fall, believes independent learning often leaves students missing out on a part of growing up.

The school called Flex Academy calls it blended learning, which means students will have their own work space and their own online personalized curriculum, but with teachers on-site to lead discussions and answer questions.

"We're hoping to enroll students that are really interested in leveraging the best of what online learning and technology has to offer, with conjunction with a face-to-face teacher every day," said Greg Gentle, future principal of Flex Academy.

Enrollment has begun for Flex Academy in Richfield. It's open to any south metro students.
