A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting a Norman County sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said 19-year-old Steven Anthony Henderson is being held in the Northwest Regional Correction Center in Crookston.

The deputy who was shot was in the process of taking Henderson's 18-year-old brother, William Patrick Henderson, into custody for an outstanding warrant in Pennington County, according to Jill Oliveira from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The deputy and Steven Henderson exchanged gunfire and the deputy was wounded, Oliveira said.

The shooting happened 7 miles east of Perley, Minn. Steven Henderson was caught about 3 miles north of the original shooting scene.

The deputy, who is not being named, was taken to a Fargo hospital, treated and released. Oliveira said the Norman County deputy was wearing a bullet-resistant vest.

Perley is located in Norman County in northwestern Minnesota, just east of the Red River and roughly 23 miles north of Moorhead on Highway 75.

A number of facilities in Norman County went into full lockdown in response to the incident and over 70 officers from more than a dozen law enforcement agencies conducted the manhunt.

William Henderson is also being held at the correctional facility until he can be transferred to the Pennington County Jail.
