It was back to school for students at the University of Minnesota on Monday, following chaos and arrests in Dinkytown over the weekend.

Thousands of students packed 4th Street and 14th Avenue after Gopher hockey games on Thursday and Saturday night.

The disturbance Saturday came after Union College scored three times in a 1 minute, 54 second span in the first period in a 7-4 victory over Minnesota in the NCAA Frozen Four championships.

A rowdy crowd of a few hundred people formed in the street near the University of Minnesota around 10 p.m.

People could be seen running through the streets of Dinkytown after police shot bean bags and rubber pellets into the crowd.

There were cases of arson, a car had a street sign smashed into it and other property was damaged.

Twenty-nine people were arrested for a variety of charges.

Now officials are looking at the cost of patrolling the area for the weekend. Police overtime is likely the biggest charge since a total of 300 officers were in Dinkytown for the event. The University of Minnesota has roughly 50 officers, and nearly every one was on duty Saturday.

As for the students arrested, punishment could include anything from a warning to expulsion.
