I am a huge fan of the Lego-themed video games.  They are really fun to play and are usually filled with humor.

I just received a review copy of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s “Lego The Hobbit” for the PS4 and it is awesome.

“Lego The Hobbit” follows the film very closely, and you will get to play as many of the characters from the movie.  The main character is Bilbo Biggens, and he is recruited by Gandalf who is a very powerful wizard to help a group of dwarves reclaim their Kingdom of Erebor.

There are tons of selectable characters that you can unlock as you complete levels and each one has its own unique abilities that will help you get through the game.

The graphics are amazing and look fabulous on the PS4.  The characters and backgrounds are extremely detailed.

The controls are very easy to learn.  Whenever there is a new ability or new object that you can interact with, a question stone will appear and you just need it to hit it with your weapon, and a box will come on the screen that will show you what button you will need to push and text will explain what it will do.  I thought that this was very helpful.

If you push the triangle button, a character wheel will pop up and here you can select different characters, unlock new characters with your Lego studs, and see what is in your backpack.

The backpack is pretty cool.  Each character has a few different weapons you can switch between.  You can also see your loot in the backpack.  You can mine minerals and gather materials in the game and they are stored in your backpack.  There is copper, iron, sapphires, ruby’s, meat, fish, mithril bricks and much more. You use the loot to build things that you need in the game.  When you come up to a build site, you can see all of the materials you will need to build it.

Once you start building something with your loot, a mini game will start where you have to choose the correct Lego piece that is needed to complete the object you are building.  If you select the correct piece and do it quickly, you will get a bunch of Lego studs.  If you make a mistake, you will not get as many.

The Lego studs are used to buy characters, weapons and secret blocks that will help you in the game.  Just about everything can be smashed and when you do destroy something Lego studs appear and you can collect them.  There are also tons of Lego studs just lying out in the open that you can run and collect.

One really cool feature is that you can have two of the characters that you care controlling team up and do a “buddy up smash.”  Sometimes there will be an object that you will need to do a powerful smash on to break it. You will have to pick up the other character with the “O” button, and then you will have to push the square button and you will throw them onto the object and break it.

Once you complete the first few levels, you will be able to move freely around the Shire.  Here you can help people, replay levels, find characters and play the next level.  There are many things to do, and if you push the touch pad, a map will open up and you can see where all of the things I just mentioned are located.

There is also a little map on the bottom left of the screen that is pretty helpful, and there is a blue line that shows you where you need to go for the next level.

Each level has a few things that you must find such as mini kits; mithril blocks and get a certain amount of Lego studs to achieve the “Master Burglar” status.  The first time you play a level, you will not be able to get all of the items in the level, because you will need characters that have special abilities that are not available at the time.  I really think this is awesome and gives the game a great replay value.

Another cool feature about “Lego The Hobbit,” is that you can play “Lego The Hobbit” with another player, and this is very helpful and fun to do with friends and family.  The other person can jump in and out of the game anytime and that is great.

One thing that I want to mention is that “Lego The Hobbit” is filled with puzzles that are very challenging and fun to try and figure out.  In order to solve a lot of the puzzles, you will have to try and figure out what character you need because of their ability.

Overall I really enjoyed Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s “Lego The Hobbit” a lot.  It was really fun and challenging to play.  The graphics were awesome, and the controls were very easy to learn.  I liked the characters and also enjoyed the humor in the game.  I think that this is a great game to play by yourself or with friends and family.  If you are a fan of the “Lego” games or “The Hobbit” I would highly recommend that you check it out today.

“Lego The Hobbit” is rated “E10” for cartoon violence and comic mischief
