Here are some highlights of what is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol on Wednesday, April 9:

Minimum Wage
The Minnesota Senate on Wednesday is poised to approve a dramatic increase in the state's minimum wage from $6.15 to $9.50 per hour. The bill would also index future increases to rise with the rate of inflation. Gov. Mark Dayton says he'll sign the bill once it's passed by the House and Senate. Labor groups strongly support the bill; many business groups remain opposed.

Medical Marijuana
A vote about medical marijuana expected in the House on Wednesday is now on hold. Dayton says there’s still not enough support from law enforcement; Dayton has declined to support legalization but said it's unfair to portray him as the sole obstacle on the issue.

Spinal Cord Injury Research
A rally is taking place at the Minnesota State Capitol on Wednesday to fight for more research on spinal cord injuries here in Minnesota. A coalition of organizations wants to create a research grant program in Minnesota for spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. The group is asking for a bill to move forward this session, allocating $4 million a year for research projects in Minnesota. The rally starts at 2:30 p.m.

Women’s Economic Security Act
Another rally took place in St. Paul to try to close the pay gap in Minnesota. The Women’s Economic Security Act would require businesses that contract with the state to report on pay equity among their workers. It also provides affordable child care and expanded family and sick leave. The rally was held at the front steps of the Capitol.

Online Voter Registration
A Senate committee will discuss a bill to make online voter registration official. It was put in place by Secretary of State Mark Ritchie last year.
