Searchers were back on the water Sunday looking for a Ramsey man who disappeared under strange circumstances Friday morning.

The man went missing after a Hummer went into the Mississippi River near Ramsey. He is presumed dead, according to officials at the scene.

The search and recovery effort moved down the river to Champlin on Sunday evening. The search was delayed earlier in the day due to strong currents on the river.

The Ramsey Police Department says they got a call around 1:34 a.m. Friday that a vehicle drove into the Mississippi River. When they arrived, they said one person was on the roof of the vehicle, which was about 175 yards from the shore.

As a fire department rescue boat was being launched, police say the man on the vehicle was seen falling into the river. Friends at the scene tell KSTP the Hummer belongs to 39-year-old Travis Benjamin of Ramsey.

Another 42-year-old man from Fridley was found inside the vehicle and taken back to shore. Officers say he was "uncooperative" and "vague" in his replies to any questions. Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident.

It's believed the water temperature is just above freezing; authorities say the river is far too cold for someone to survive.

At this point it's unclear who the driver of the Hummer was.

KSTP asked police if criminal charges are possible in an incident like this, and they said it's too early to tell.

Dive teams resumed the search for 39-year-old Travis Benjamin's body.
