University of Minnesota swim and dive coach Dennis Dale will not return for a 30th season next year, the school said in a release Wednesday. Dale, whose contract will expire this season, has led the Gophers to five Big Ten titles in the past 10 seasons.

The University decided not to renew the contract, according to the release.

"Dennis built our men's swimming program and has been the guiding force behind its many accomplishments," athletics director Norwood Teague said in the release. "You don't have this amount of consistent success without a truly special individual, and we have had that in Dennis for 29 years."

Dale is a six-time Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Minnesota finished fourth at last month's Big Ten Championships in Michigan. Under Dale, the Gophers have finished fourth or better the past 26 years.
