A 9-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a semi in Buffalo County in western Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon.
The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office said the boy was hit around 4 p.m. on Highway 25/35 at the intersection of Jefferson Street in the village of Nelson. According to a witness, the semi hit the child and continued driving southbound through Nelson.
The boy was crossing with another child when he was hit by the rear portion of the semi-trailer, according to the sheriff’s office. At this point it's unclear if the semi driver knew he hit the boy.
The boy was taken to Wabasha Hospital by ambulance and then was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
The child’s name has not been released.
The description of the semi involved is limited.
