A 38-year-old Rochester school paraprofessional has been charged with criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having sex with a student.
The Assistant Superintendent of Rochester Public Schools confronted authorities last February regarding a possible inappropriate relationship between Jody Lynn Nelson of Stewartville and student at the school where she worked.
According to the criminal complaint, Nelson met the student, who was in 10th grade at the time, during Nelson's first year working in English classes at Mayo High School.
Nelson started hanging out and drinking with the boy and his friends after school, the complaint said. One night at a party at the boy's mother's house, Nelson was wrapped in a blanket with the victim while talking on the deck, the complaint said.
The victim told investigators that later in the night his friends popped the lock open on the door and entered a bedroom while the Nelson and the boy were in the room having sex.
A girl who was at the party told investigator she saw Nelson with the victim in the kitchen before they went into a bedroom. She said Nelson told her not to say anything, according to the complaint.
Nelson denied ever hanging out or being at a party with the victim, the complaint said.
Nelson told investigators she was once drinking at a party at a neighbor's house while the victim was having a party. She said she leaned in to see if she could smell anything on the victim.
She denies ever being in a bedroom with the victim, the complaint said.
