A 24-year-old youth pastor at a church in Savage was arrested on suspicion of soliciting a minor with an electronic device in Pope County on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

Authorities say Matthew Boos, who works with children at River Valley Church, is currently in custody at the Douglas County Jail. There is no jail in Pope County.

He has worked at the church, which has a congregation of around 1,000 people, for three years, according to Executive Pastor Darin Poli.

Poli said Boos will be put on an indefinite leave of absence pending the investigation.

"The church places the utmost importance on the protection and safety of its kids and their families," Poli said. "We are shocked and surprised. There have never been any complaints about Matt Boos," he said.

Authorities say Boos is expected to be formally charged this week.
