State Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, sent a stinging letter to Governor Dayton criticizing him for telling Minnesotans "half-truths" about MNsure's performance.

Abeler took a lot of heat as a long-time republican who helped pass the MNsure law last year. But now he says the individual and small business enrollment numbers are so low MNsure is not financially sustainable on its own.

"I would be embarrassed to mention this but, even so, this is not a success story, not a success story at all," said Abeler.

Abeler rifled off a letter to Gov. Dayton telling the governor he's provided Minnesotans "half-truths and misinformation." He also said MNsure enrollment projections "have been woefully short of your administration's predictions."

Abeler says it is time for Dayton and MNsure to come clean with voters and taxpayers and talk honestly about what needs to be done in the future to fix what he calls "a problem."

A spokesperson for Dayton issued a statement that says MNsure has been open and honest about its finances and budget.
