Target Corp. Chief Financial Officer John Mulligan testified before a U.S. Senate committee Wednesday over the company’s massive data breach.
Bloomberg reports that he was expected to acknowledge the company first detected the breach in November and was then reviewed by a security team, which was weeks before the news went public.
The breach affected tens of millions of shoppers during the height of the holiday shopping season.
The hearing, titled “Protecting Personal Consumer Information from Cyber Attacks and Data Breaches,” began at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. It's focused on the risks the recent data breaches pose for consumers, the lack of federal protections, and several proposed bills to create more federal standards.
