We’re less than two weeks out from the Twins Home Opener, and if you’re planning to make a trip to Target Field this season you might want to give yourself some extra time.

New walk-through metal detectors will be at some of the gates starting April 7 as a new security measure.

The new protocol was first announced back in January and is part of a league-wide mandate; all MLB stadiums are required to be equipped with metal detectors at all gates by 2015.

In Minnesota, it will be a gradual rollout, starting with a few gates. The Twins plan to have them in place at every fan entrance point by the end of May, ahead of the MLB All-Star Game this summer.

The Minnesota Twins play against the Oakland Athletics in April 7’s Home Opener.
