After a close first half, Fergus Falls dominated the second half Wednesday to beat Kasson-Mantorville 61-52 in a Class 3A quarterfinal of the Girls' State Basketball Tournament.
Senior guard Bailey Strand scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half but the Otters only led 31-29 at the break. Fergus Falls started the second half with a 5-0 run and held off the Komets the rest of the way to advance to the semifinals on Thursday at Williams Arena.
Senior center Kristin Traiser added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Fergus Falls (29-1).
Kasson-Montorville out-rebounded Fergus Falls 52-40 thanks to its freshman center Kristin Scott. She had a game-high 17 rebounds while scoring 12 points and blocking four shots.
Four Komets scored in double-figures, led by junior guard Taylor Miller's 13 points, but it was not enough.
Second-seeded Fergus Falls will play third-seeded Marshall in the semifinals.
