Minnesota may soon become the first state dedicating an entire month to honoring veterans.

A bill is being discussed that would designate October as a monthlong celebration honoring vets.

The bill would also launch a veteran art project statewide. Veterans say people who have not served in the military do not understand what they've been through regarding war, post traumatic stress, and traumatic brain injuries.

Veterans believe they can bridge the gap through art.

By creating art, short stories, and poems veterans hope to better connect with the public.

The Minnesota Humanities Center began the project, Veterans' Voices, last year.

If the bill becomes law the project would be expanded.
