A Lakeville man who is a student at the University of North Dakota was airlifted to a Minneapolis hospital after he was pulled from a house fire near campus early Sunday morning in Grand Forks, according to his friends.
Friends say 21-year-old Matt Heisler was airlifted from Altru Hospital in Grand Forks to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with severe injuries.
ABC-affiliate WDAZ in Grand Forks reports Heisler was trapped inside a home on First Avenue North that had started on fire around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Four people live at the residence. Heisler and another roommate were the only roommates home for the weekend. One of them had just gotten off of work, WDAZ reports.
When seeing the flames, he went into the residence to rescue his roommate.
By the time crews arrived, Heisler had been pulled from the fire.
Both were taken to Altru Hospital with unknown injuries. It is believed only Heisler was airlifted.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the home and the residents have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
