A Sauk Rapids man injured two people while attempting to flee from a hospital where he was being treated for Taser wounds Saturday, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said 26-year-old Shawn Thomas Iees had three outstanding warrants when St. Cloud police attempted to apprehend him around noon while he was walking on Veteran's Drive near 24th Avenue.
Iees then fled the officers on foot, authorities said. After a short chase, he was taken to the ground, but continued to fight officers despite being tasered, authorities said.
Gold Cross responded to the scene where Iees was checked by paramedics. He was transported to the St Cloud Hospital by squad.
While being treated by hospital staff, he tried to flee for the second time, authorities said.
During the ensuing struggle both the deputy and a hospital staff member were injured, authorities said.
Iees is being held in the Stearns County jail on multiple charges including assaulting an officer and medical caregiver.
