A month after instant-play Minnesota Lottery tickets went live on the Internet, the virtual venture is under threat at the Capitol.

Key lawmakers are attempting to shut down sales, saying they shouldn't have been allowed in the first place. Their bill gets an initial committee hearing next week, and Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk predicts there are sufficient votes in the Senate to pass it.

Lottery Director Ed Van Petten told The Associated Press he has been meeting with lawmakers in an attempt to allay concerns and has kept Gov. Mark Dayton's office apprised of developments. Van Petten defends the foray into Internet games.

Minnesota's lottery is among a few in the country testing the online waters, though it's the first to give the scratch-off franchise a modern twist.
