A St. Cloud man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a shooting death in Sartell on Thursday morning.
Sartell police said 23-year-old Demetreus Anthony McGinnis allegedly shot 20-year-old Maurice Galvin Jr. in the chest.
Galvin was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he later died, according to the criminal complaint. Before he died, Galvin told investigators he was shot by McGinnis.
Sartell police were called just before noon on Thursday after a man was brought to CentraCare Health Plaza in St. Cloud with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators determined the shooting happened at the Sprint store located on the 1700 block of Pinecone Road. A perimeter was set up in front and behind the business. Several businesses next to the store were evacuated. Officers went into the building to clear it and found evidence of the shooting behind the Sprint store.
Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes said the incident was not random because McGinnis and Galvin knew each other.
McGinnis was located and taken into custody sometime Thursday. He told police he had been in a struggle with someone else in the Sprint parking lot, the complaint said.
McGinnis told investigators his gun had gone off as a result of the fight and he had "hurt somebody."
