Boys Hoops: Fairmont Wins Thriller Over St. Peter

Third-seeded Fairmont advanced to the Boys' State Basketball Tournament Semifinals after beating St. Peter 58-54 Wednesday night at Williams Arena.

Fairmont won a tightly-played contest that featured six ties and 17 lead changes. The largest lead for the Cardinals was six points with 12 minutes left to play.

Fairmont seniors Jay Ruen and Mitch Pfingsten led the Cardinals with 17 points each.

St. Peter senior forward Tom Steidler scored a game-high 19 points for the Saints. Kolin Bartlett added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds with five assists for St. Peter.

Pfingsten had 13 of his 17 points before halftime.

Fairmont will play No. 2 Esko (27-3) in the Class AA Semifinals on Friday at Target Center.
