New London-Spicer put up a ferocious fight against the top-seeded team in Class AA, but in the end Annandale proved to be too much, winning their Class AA State Boys' State Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal 76-70 on Wednesday.
All five Annandale starters finished in double figures and combined for all 8 Cardinals’ three-point field goals.
Junior Chase Knickerbocker had a team-high and game-high 23 points for the Cardinals.
Senior Matt Miller had 16, senior Andrew Fort had 14 points and 11 rebounds, senior Kyler Fobbe added 13 points and senior Tanner Olean had 10.
Annandale only sent New London-Spicer to the free-throw line seven times in the game.
Conversely, Annandale made 16 of 31 from the free-throw line.
The Wildcats of New London-Spicer, who finish the season at 19-11, were led by junior Shane Zylstra’s double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Annandale advances to the Class AA Semifinals on Friday where they will face fourth-seeded Caledonia.
