Raising the minimum wage is a big topic this legislative session, and on Monday the owners of more than 250 restaurants, resorts and hotels will share their proposal for what they call a better way to handle a raise.

Both the House and Senate passed bills last year to raise the minimum wage, but they couldn't agree on how high it should go. Right now in Minnesota, smaller employers must pay $5.25 an hour, and for larger companies the rate is $6.15. However, most workers earn the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

Democrats in control at the Legislature are likely to enact a minimum wage hike this session, but the amount is not yet decided. Republicans warn that a minimum wage hike could make businesses cut jobs.

The news conference takes place at the State Capitol and is part of Hospitality and Tourism Day. More details can be found at abetterwaymn.com.
