The defending champs are back in the title game, seeking to extend their record for State Hockey Championships. Edina will play for back-to-back titles, and a ninth overall title, by virtue of their 3-1 Class AA Semifinal victory over Eagan.
Garret Wait fired a rocket from high in the slot to put Edina up 2-0 in the second period, which turned out to be the game-winning tally. Casey Dornbach spotted Wait open atop the zone, sliding him the puck in perfect position to pinpoint a shot into the top corner of the Eagan net.
Jack Jenson got Eagan on the board in the final minute to cut the lead to 2-1 before Edina put the game out of reach with Dylan Malmquist's second of the night that found an empty net.
Malmquist had opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, giving Edina an early 1-0 lead.
Andrew Rohkohl made 15 saves to earn the win.
Edina will attempt to be the first team to win back-to-back "big class" Championships since Bloomington Jefferson's threepeat in the early 1990's.
Edina already holds the state record with eight boys hockey State titles, not counting three more earned under the Edina East banner.
Edina will play Lakeville North in Saturday night's Class AA Championship.
