Friday is the day when some teams punch their tickets to the State Tournament Finals at Xcel Energy Center, and others go home wondering what could have been. We started the day with four teams in both Class A and Class AA; we'll come out with only the final two.

In Class A action beginning Friday morning, Hermantown beat New Prague 4-2 to earn its fifth consecutive state championship game birth. Ryan Carlson and Kori Ochs gave Hermantown the early 2-0 lead, and New Prague never threatened again.

Hermantown has lost the past four Class A championship games, but will look to change that against East Grand Forks on Saturday. East Grand Forks beat St. Cloud Cathedral 2-1 in the second game Friday. Tanner Tweten's third-period goal was the difference.

East Grand Forks and Hermantown will play at 12 p.m. Saturday.

Class AA action kicks off Friday night at 6 p.m. when Lakeville North takes on Eden Prairie. Both teams won close games Thursday to advance to the semifinals.

At 8 p.m., top-seeded Edina takes on Eagan. Both teams dominated their quarterfinal matchups on Thursday.

Visit the KSTP Sports Hockey Homepage for a recap of each game played at Xcel Energy Center this weekend. You can watch the games on 45TV and Prep45.com.
