The Minneapolis City Council covered many topics in a very short amount of time Friday morning; the meeting was over within an hour as council members plowed through voting on many topics from construction projects to alcohol sales.

The city council officially voted down the idea to run the Southwest Light Rail and freight lines through the Kenilworth Corridor. Now, if St. Louis Park refuses the backup plan, the Met Council will have to start planning the project again from scratch.

A liquor license renewal for Champions Bar and Grill was also on the agenda Friday. The owner was asking the city to renew his liquor license even after research showed police had received 100 calls to the troubled bar over the past two years. The city council unanimously voted not to renew the bar's liquor license. The owner still plans to operate as a restaurant, although most of the money from the establishment comes from alcohol sales.

The council also agreed to use $357,000 for development work on the city's street car project along Nicollet Mall, as well as moving forward on construction projects at the Target Center and the new Mayo Clinic Square, formerly known as Block E.
