Max Elsenheimer scored twice and Kyle Stebbing added an empty netter as Eagan took down Duluth East 3-0 in the a Class AA State Boys Hockey Quarterfinal Thursday night.

Andrew Lindgren made 28 saves in posting the shutout - the first for a Duluth East team since December 2012.

Elsenheimer redirected what appeared to be a last-second desperation flick by Nick Wolff alongside the sideboards in the final seconds of the second period. Elsenheimer redirected the puck from midair into the Duluth East net with 1.1 seconds showing on the clock.

The late goal gave Eagan momentum they carried into the third period, in which Elsenheimer added his second tally 6:34 in. This time he swooped behind the East net, curling around to the side and firing into the top of the net from an extreme angle.

Elsenheimer had a hand in all three of the game's goals, assisting on Stebbing's late empty netter.

The low-scoring start still provided plenty of thrills as the two teams rang up several big hits, clutch defensive shutdowns and flashy saves by both goaltenders.

Eagan advances to Friday's semifinals where they will face defending Class AA state champion Edina

Minneapolis/St. Paul
