Vikings defensive tackle Letroy Guion and wide receiver Greg Childs have been released, the team announced Thursday.

Guion, 27, signed a 3-year, $9 million contract in 2012. He got playing time in the base defense at the nose tackle position. He was a fifth-round pick in 2008.

Childs was a fourth-round pick in 2012 who tore both patellar tendons in his knees during training camp of that year. He never took a snap with the Vikings, spending all of his time trying to get back onto the field.

After releasing tight end John Carlson earlier in the week, the Vikings will have around $40 million of cap space to spend in free agency. The Vikings can start making calls to outside free agents on Saturday, and can sign players beginning on Tuesday.
