Beekeepers from around the state are asking the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and lawmakers to save their hives.

On Wednesday, beekeeper Steve Ellis delivered a petition to ban the use of a pesticide they say is killing their bees. Bees have been dying across the state at an alarming rate.

The petition signed by nearly 40 commercial beekeepers asks the state to stop the use of neonicotinoid. Ellis says the pesticide is costing the industry hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Prices of honey and almonds have risen due to the bee shortage.
