A University of St. Thomas student who remains in critical condition following a hit-and-run in November will undergo surgery Friday.

According to the University of St. Thomas, Rebekka Peterson has been cleared for surgery to replace a section of her skull that was removed following the hit-and-run.

Peterson and Nicholas Bergeland, both 22-years-old at the time of the crash, were getting out of a cab on the 1900 block of Grand Avenue when they were hit by another car. Forty-year-old Latocha Thomas of St. Paul was arrested in connection to the incident.

As of January, Bergeland's family said he was in stable condition and that doctors told them he would have to go through at least six months of rehab.

A medical fund has been set up for Peterson:

Checks can be sent to any Associated Bank branch - make checks payable to: Bekka Peterson Medical Benefit Fund.
