After rumors linking them to Martin Brodeur and Jaroslav Halak, the Minnesota Wild traded for Edmonton Oilers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov on Tuesday.

In exchange, Edmonton gets a fourth-round pick belonging to the Buffalo Sabres in this summer's draft. The Wild obtained Buffalo's pick in the deal that brought Jason Pominville to Minnesota last season.

"Bryzgalov is a quality veteran that adds depth to the goaltending position for our team," Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher said in a statement.

With both Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom ailing, the Wild were almost assured to be in the market for a backup to Darcy Kuemper ahead of Wednesday's NHL trade deadline.

Bryzgalov just signed on with Edmonton earlier this season posting a .905 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average in 20 games.

The 33-year old Russian has played 445 career NHL games with prior stops in Philadelphia, Phoenix and Anaheim - where he won a Stanley Cup in 2006-07.

Bryzgalov has a career .913 save percentage and a 2.57 goals against average.

He is scheduled to make $2.27 million this season, after which he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

He had signed a 9-year, $51M deal with Philadelphia, but was cut in a contract amnesty move after last season.
