The Minnesota Wild are good at home, and they're about to be even better.
When the Wild play on home ice at the Xcel Energy Center Monday night for the first time since Feb. 6, they'll finally have the services of captain Mikko Koivu. The team announced Monday Koivu and defenseman Marco Scandella have been activated from Injured Reserve.
Koivu broke his ankle Jan. 4 during a game against the Washington Capitals, an injury that forced him to miss the Olympics for Team Finland. In 44 games this season, Koivu has scored eight times and recorded 27 assists.
Koivu said after Monday's morning skate at the Xcel Energy Center he is excited to return but waiting to do so was frustrating.
"Very excited and obviously a little nervous," he said, "but that's part of the step you take to the game. It will be fun."
Scandella suffered a sprained knee and was placed on IR Feb. 26. In 55 games this season, Scandella has scored three goals and tallied 13 assists.
"I'm just excited," he said. "It's been a month. It feels like a long time."
The Wild (33-21-7) are 21-7-2 at home this season and sit seventh in the Western Conference standings. Minnesota defeated Calgary at home 5-1 in November.
