With eight months to go before Election Day, Governor Mark Dayton is well-positioned to win re-election, according to new poll numbers in our KSTP/SurveyUSA poll.
In head-to-head match-ups with six potential GOP opponents, Dayton leads by anywhere from 17 to 21 points. His closest competitor is Marty Seifert, who trails Dayton 51 percent to 34 percent. Seifert also won the GOP straw poll at last month's precinct caucuses.
Dayton polled between 51 percent and 53 percent. His six GOP opponents, Seifert, Dave Thompson, Scott Honour, Jeff Johnson, Kurt Zellers and Rob Farnsworth polled between 31 percent and 34 percent.
There will likely be a GOP primary in August and this race is expected to tighten once Republicans settle on a candidate to challenge Dayton.
We will have a full demographic breakdown of this poll and and a U.S. Senate poll Tuesday on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS at 10.
