Participants Flock to Eau Claire Beach for Log Rolling Championships

The U.S. Log Rolling Winter Championships took place in Eau Claire, Wis., on Saturday.

Proceeds from the event benefit more than a thousand local athletes with disabilities. Top prize for those elite rollers takes in $2,500.

J.R. Salzman is an Iraq war veteran who lost his arm in 2006.

"When I went to Iraq, I said, regardless of what happens to me, as long as I come home and I still have my legs, and I can still log roll, I'll be happy," Salzman said.

A hole had already been cut into the ice on Half Moon Beach for the Polar Ice Plunge. The two events worked together to fundraise for the "Freezing for a Reason" campaign.
