The U.S. Log Rolling Winter Championships took place in Eau Claire, Wis., on Saturday.

Proceeds from the event benefit more than a thousand local athletes with disabilities. Top prize for those elite rollers takes in $2,500.

J.R. Salzman is an Iraq war veteran who lost his arm in 2006.

"When I went to Iraq, I said, regardless of what happens to me, as long as I come home and I still have my legs, and I can still log roll, I'll be happy," Salzman said.

A hole had already been cut into the ice on Half Moon Beach for the Polar Ice Plunge. The two events worked together to fundraise for the "Freezing for a Reason" campaign.
