The snow is a good thing, for people who enjoy outdoor sports. But Thursday night's storm was not welcomed by a store in Ramsey that thrives on winter recreation. So much snow in a short amount of time caused a roof to collapse.
Luckily, nobody was hurt. The damage to the outside is tremendous. Inside, they sell everything from ATVs to 4-Wheelers. It's so bad in the service and parts areas that we weren't allowed back there.
A life line for a local couple is temporarily in trouble.
Glenda Amar says she and her husband have owned Pro Power Sports and Marine for nearly a decade. Amar said, "You know it's heartbreaking. This is our heart and soul, this is our business."
"One of our employees was clearing out his office and it was so forceful it threw him to the floor, so yeah, it was pretty scary," Amar said. "It was fast, boy, boom and over."
This locally-owned Ramsey business is a go-to spot for some outdoor enthusiasts. "We're the one stop shop for fun year round," Amar said. But now, she and her husband are dealing with a setback.
Employee Brian Lamres described the scene: "It's a mess, water, everywhere, insulation, ceiling, and roof tiles, everything's pretty much fallen down."
The water pipes were on the roof, so when it collapsed, the store flooded.
The owners weren't able to get everything out in time. Amar said, "My husband couldn't get his truck out because the garage wouldn't open."
Lambres added, "With the amount of snow that we had and the rain and the weight initially yesterday...something's got to give sooner or later."
And now, the struggle is to reorganize and rebuild.
The fire department turned off the gas once they learned of the roof collapse.
