The future of a proposal to build a hotel in the heart of Dinkytown is in jeopardy after a crucial Minneapolis City Council vote.

Doran Development wants to build a hotel on 4th Street Southeast with more than 120 rooms. However, the plan has met some resistance.

Doran Companies wants to demolish three properties to make way for the large, mixed-use building near the University of Minnesota's campus.

In January, the Heritage Preservation Commission denied the demolition requests.

Doran development then appealed the denial Friday.

The city council granted their appeal for two of the buildings, but not the third.

The city council granted appeals for two of the three buildings. The project is on hold, at least until a in-depth study of the buildings' historic value has been completed.

Dinkytown Tattoo will stay put, but a former yogurt shop and a historic home can be demolished.

The third building that houses Mesa Pizza was protected by a previous city council vote.
