Spring is right around the corner. Of course, this being Minnesota, a pothole might be right around the corner too.
"Once they start, I mean they just get bigger and bigger," said Brad Meinhold, pretty much summing up a lot of people's expectations.
The deep freezes ... followed by temporary thaws, add up to the perfect recipe for potholes and a rough ride.
"They seem kind of ridiculously bad," Chris Schearer said of this year's early potholes.
Tyrone Bellamy put it bluntly, saying, "Well, I don't like them."
Added Emily Schenk, "I love them! Umm no, just kidding, they suck."
Truth is, Shenk really hates potholes. They're why she had to spend $80 fixing her car's alignment.
"They're horrible, they're everywhere," she said.
But are they any worse than usual? And not just potholes -- there was a pavement failure Tuesday on I-35e in St. Paul -- so we're talking all kinds of pavement problems.
"It might be starting a little early, but then again, like I said, it could end a little earlier too," said MnDOT Spokesperson Denise Workcuff. "It's really hard to predict whether it's going to be a worse spring than last Spring."
In other words, your guess is as good as MnDOT's.
"It's gonna be worse than the last couple years because of the early snow," guessed Meinhold. "Lots of early snow, and you know, we're still two months away from spring."
"I can't imagine it would be any different," said Schenk. "It always seems worse every year."
