Forty-seven couples took part in the second annual free Valentine's Day wedding in Downtown Minneapolis Friday. But this year there was something new. Same-sex couples legally exchanged vows for the first time on Feb. 14.
Kate Englebert and Viki Hollenbeck traveled from Door County, Wis., for their ceremony. They said, "It seemed the right time, Minnesota said yes, so we said yes. We like what Minnesota represents."
Gay marriage is not legal in Wisconsin.
This is the second year the Fourth District Court has held the Valentine's Day ceremony. Officials say the interest was so high, they had to turn couples away.
