Maybe Cupid’s arrow just isn’t as effective this year or people aren’t as willing to splurge on flowers and chocolates, but less Americans will be celebrating Valentine’s Day this year.

The National Retail Federation says 54 percent of Americans will mark the holiday, which is down from 60 percent last year. But those who are celebrating all things love are spending more. On average, they will spend $133.91 on candy, cards, gifts and dinner, which is up $3 from last year.

It’s no wonder businesses cherish Valentine’s Day – all that gift giving turns into some serious cash! Americans are expected to spend just more than $17 billion on loved ones.

Carrie Roscha of pocketyourdollars.com discussed Valentine's Day freebies and deals you can score last-minute. There are tons of deals on food, entertainment, cards and more. Watch our interview with her here.
