Police say the woman who was hit and dragged by a commercial truck in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening has died.

Twenty-five-year-old Caitlan Barton of Savage succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, police say.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, Barton was crossing the street with the light at Market Boulevard and West Lake Street when she was hit by a DHL delivery truck turning right at that intersection. She was then dragged a short distance.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and Barton was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition.

KSTP called DHL to ask about the driver, whose name has not been released. We've learned the driver is an independent contractor and was hired by North Star Logistics in the Twin Cities. DHL confirmed the driver is currently on leave.

Police say the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, and they don’t believe drugs or alcohol are factors.
